SQ3R Strategy

Steps of the SQ3R Study System:

S means Survey-Preview the material

• Look at titles and subtitles
• Read introductions and conclusions
• Read the First and Last sentence of each paragraph
• Look at illustrations, charts, tables, graphs, captions and explanations

Q means Question-Formulate questions about the material.

• Write your own questions.
• Pre-read questions in the text.

R1 means Read Actively-As you read materials, try to answer the questions you made or read.

R2 means Recite your Answers-Pause to answer and repeat or write the answers you found.

R3 means Review-When you are done reading, review the material, find remaining answers, this will help you recall what you have read.
